FauxCooling privacy policy
FauxCooling is a fan control app for Android gaming handhelds, made by Paul Reioux (faux123). The package name is com.faux.cooling.
What the app collects
Nothing. FauxCooling cannot connect to the internet, so it cannot send data off your device. It contains no analytics, advertising, or crash reporting.
If you choose to become a supporter, the purchase is made through Google Play, and Google handles the payment under its own privacy policy. FauxCooling receives no payment details. It asks Google Play whether your account owns the Supporter purchase, and stores one yes or no value on your device so it can show the Supporter badge and stop its support reminder.
What stays on your device
- Your settings: the target temperature, whether the app starts with the device, and any speed limits you choose. They are kept in the app's private storage.
- A log of temperatures, fan speeds, and speed limits, kept for seven days in the folder
/data/local/tmp/fauxcoolingso you can see what the app did. Other apps cannot read that folder. A computer you connect with USB debugging switched on may be able to. - If you use per-app settings: the names of the apps you set them for, and of the eight apps most recently on screen while FauxCooling was on, in that same folder.
None of this leaves the device. Uninstalling the app removes its private storage. To remove the log and the per-app settings, switch FauxCooling off and delete /data/local/tmp/fauxcooling with administrator access (root).
Permissions
- Run at startup (
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED): to start again after a restart when you have left the app switched on. - Google Play billing (
com.android.vending.BILLING): for the optional Supporter purchase. - Administrator access (root, or the service the device maker includes on the AYN Odin 3 and the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro): to read the temperature and to set the fan and the speed limits. The app asks for nothing else.
